What is Protocol Testing?

What is Protocol Testing?
Protocol testing is the testing the functionality protocol's any given protocol should function with respect to its RFC. Protocol testing involves testing functionality, protocol stack, interoperability, performance etc...

What is Protocol?
A uniform set of rules that enable two devices to connect and transmit data to one another. Protocols determine how data are transmitted between computing devices and over networks. They define issues such as error control and data compression methods. The protocol determines the following: type of error checking to be used, data compression method (if any), how the sending device will indicate that it has finished a message and how the receiving device will indicate that it has received the message.

Latest in Protocol Technology
3G Protocols 1x is third generation (3G) protocol, although some may consider it as 2.5 or 2.75G technology, meaning it provides some but not all of the benefits of 3G. In its full designation, CDMA2000 1xRTT, "CDMA" stands for "code division multiple access", while "1xRTT" stands for "1 times Radio Transmission Technology. This technology was pioneered by a wireless telecommunications research and development company known as Qualcomm. .

Mobile communication

Mobile communication has a long history. Starting from 1st generation till 4th generation the technology becomes complex. For example GSM which was a second generation popular technology was developed for Voice and CS related traffic. But when the demand for data (PS) services grew different other technologies were added with GSM. These include GPRS, EDGE, etc.

The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP)

The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is the standards organization that is responsible for the evolutionary planning of the 3GPP family of technologies. 3GPP creates specifications for wireless cellular technologies through working groups comprised of operators and vendors to further the development and standardization for successful global deployments of the 3GPP family of technologies and labels the final stages of development as “Releases.” 3GPP uses a system of parallel Releases to provide developers with a stable platform for implementation and to allow for the addition of new features required by the market.
